Iranian President Supports the Cheetah Conservation in the Country

Tehran, March 10, 2004-President Mohammad Khatami supports the cheetah conservation in the country.

During the Natural Resources Week, the Iranian cabinet was presented ICS Cheetah Cubic Puzzles, an educational material produced to teach about the cheetahs from Dr Masoumeh Ebtekar, Head of the Iranian Department of the Environment (picture below- visiting ICS booth in the International Environmental Fair and meeting ICS Cheetah Kids - July 2002)

In 2000, the Iranian President Mohammad Khatami learned about the gloomy status of the cheetah in the country and asked for more protective measurements to save this natural heritage from extinction. The Iranian DOE launched a joint project with UNDP/GEF, WCS and CCF to conserve the last remains of the critically endangered Iranian cheetah in central deserts of eastern half of the country which was estimated to be around 50.

Iranian Cheetah Society (ICS) as a non-profit NGO tries to increase public awareness among people, mainly at local communities around the cheetah habitats based on field surveys conducted on the cheetah and its associated biota. ICS needs some cheetah educational materials for its public awareness activities which Cheetah Cubic Puzzle is one of the product basket, sponsored by the US-Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
