ICS Won the 2005 Iranian Environment Award

July 2005- The Iranian Cheetah Society (ICS) won the Iranian National Environment Award presented by the Vice President Masoumeh Ebtekar.

Due to effective attempts to save the last remains of the very rare Iranian cheetah in the country, ICS was selected among more than 700 Iranian environmental NGOs for the 2005 award.

Since 1999, The Iranian Department of the Environment (DOE) holds an annual ceremony to honor the Iranian people and organizations devoted to save the nature in the country and ICS has been the youngest among the winners since 1999. Unlike previous years which environmentalists in the fields of pollution, energy and engineering won the national award, it was for the first time in which a NGO devoted to the wildlife conservation was deserved to win the award and ICS is lucky to be a wildlife pioneer in the country.

Since establishment in 2001, the Iranian Cheetah Society (ICS) has had various activities to study on the cheetah and its associated biota and to increase local people's awareness in order to reduce the cheetah-human conflicts. As a result of  ICS measures, 2 new reserves has been added to the known cheetah network in the country and several MSc and BSc thesis has been done on the cheetah and its relevant species.
