A Population of Steppe Cat in Miandasht

Feb, 10 2005- Several shots of Steppe cat Felis silvestris (ornata) were captured during the undergoing camera trapping survey in Miandasht. Previously, this species had not been officially reported from the reserve. So far, a total of 12 shots has been taken indicating 4 individuals which all of them were captured during night. The pictures are referred to those areas with high number of rodents. Beside the steppe cat, the caracal was verified by the camera traps in September. The Iranian Cheetah Society (ICS) has been conducting a camera trapping survey to identify the cheetah range and probably obtain an estimation of the cheetah population size inside one of the last habitats of the cheetah in Asia.
